Human
"I am human and I need to be loved."
”You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”
- Mary Oliver
I tell myself,
this is human,
to have been loved before.
Sometimes, I wonder
if I am only a bridge
between who you are
and who you are trying to become.
Am I an afterthought,
A temporary harbour,
a pause in your life?
But I am also more than that.
I am stardust that learned how to ache,
I am breath and storm and open sky,
and I refuse to be small
just to fit into the space
someone else left behind in you.
I am human and I need to be loved.
I fear effort will become optional instead of instinct.
I love you in verbs, distinctions and devotion.
You love me in something smaller, softer,
which I hope fights to stay.
My soul has been tilted by another human being.
Your existence is rare and unrepeatable.
I stand at the edge,
trying not to let fear rewrite
possible destiny.
I did not look for you.
I found what I needed.
Do not let me be temporary bliss.
Let the cosmos hold the stars
with the same gentleness I caress your face.
I try not to measure my heartbeat
against something already gone.

This inspires me to write more. Thank you ❤️
