Just for today
The autumn sun peeking through the clouds
A glimpse of my future
The silent promise in my held breath
I can do better than this
My limitations haven’t been discovered yet
And I will put them into the fire
The flames that burrow within me
Scorching hot but not leaving traces
No ashes to connect myself with
Just the fire that longs to be held
Empty like a fridge on a Sunday morning
Soothing like the last piece of chocolate in the cabinet
Cold like an October morning will never articulate to me
Stirring up my black coffee with a sprinkle of cinnamon
Mundane does not have to be unrewarding
The heartbeat of my soul is a reminder
Performing for the sake of my destiny
It is allowed to be longing for a new tomorrow
Just in case today ends early
Or because the day after promises to hold your hand
Stop inviting that bad taste into your love-speaking mouth
You’re allowed to consume the sun
Just for today
Long for it tomorrow
