My Christmas present
"If this is a miracle, it wears wool and patience."
Happy holidays, if you celebrate or if you don’t. Take care of yourself and one another. It’s the time to be kind, more than ever. Although you should give love every day.
The cold has teeth this time of year,
small white ones clicking in the dark.
Windows hold their breath.
Even the night seems wrapped,
waiting to be opened.
Some gifts do not glitter.
They pulse.
They steady the blood.
They say, here,
take this light,
it knows how to last.
The universe shrinks to the space
between his pulse and mine.
Every small gesture,
every quiet signal,
Every inhale that puts you in my bloodstream.
Knowing I am home
only in him.
If this is a miracle,
it wears wool and patience.
It keeps the longest nights intact
only to prove
that endurance can end in warmth.
The year exhales.
The night loosens.
Somewhere in the frost-lit dark,
the nod of approval
has been given.
The wish was answered
without apology,
the rare precision
of a gift that knows
exactly where to land.
If you liked this, you will also enjoy:
The last dance
"It’s time for my last dance, the last I will ever get offered before the night collects what I owe it."

Merry Christmas! Such a gorgeous poem. I’m so glad you’ve found happiness this year <3
