Sufficient
"But I am also learning that love is not a test I must pass perfectly."
“in the end
i would rather be able to say
i loved too much
than not enough”
― Christopher Poindexter
I keep thinking
there must have been a moment,
small as a breath slipping between leaves,
where I could have done more for you.
I could have loved you better.
Like staying a second longer
in the quiet after you spoke,
like holding your name in my mouth
as if it were made of glass and light
and not letting it fall.
I do not want to fail you
the way I feel I am failing
everything else.
I am terrified
of being insufficient.
I don’t want to hold you still.
That my love will feel like hands
instead of wings.
But I am also learning
that love is not a test
I must pass perfectly.

Love is definitely not a test. It has space for errors and imperfections, because truly, if love was perfectly calculated without a moment of stumbling, would it even be love or would it be an act?
