The performer
It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.

I place my overflowing
gently into your hands.
Offered to someone who never asked
yet drinks with reverence.
Careful not to shatter
the fragile miracle
of being understood
Do you know
what that does to someone
who once believed
their rain
was an inconvenience to the sky?
And you,
you place your uncertainty beside it,
still warm from the forge of change,
trusting I will not mistake
your becoming
for instability.
You stand there,
dust still clinging to your wings
from the ruins you are gently
teaching yourself to leave.
I will give it my all,
the quiet applause
no one hears
but every performer needs
to keep breathing between acts.
