The world shines
"Let the night carry on without me, beautiful and bruised."
"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." — Marcus Aurelius
Ripe fruit bends the branch,
the evening settles on the shoulder of the earth.
The body is tired.
The mind is louder than it ought to be.
The moon rests her hand on my head.
Stay a while.
Sadness sits at the foot of the bed,
an old hound,
not vicious enough to bite.
Only determined to remain present.
I focus on the seemingly small salvations.
The scent of rain rising from warm stone.
The soft collapse of summer into the evening.
The universe leaves little love letters,
lying open.
Yet I always search for only one.
I focus on the slow art of remaining.
The understanding that nothing beautiful had to happen,
it did, anyway.
I have the privilege to witness them.
To witness you.
Look at me,
a creature of carbon and calcium,
temporarily brought into consciousness,
standing beneath galaxies,
holding all the miracles of the world
in trembling hands,
and discovering,
to my everlasting gratefulness,
amidst all this exceptional excess,
my heart keeps returning
to the same creature of creation.
The stars continue burning,
the hound has gone to sleep.
Let the night carry on without me,
beautiful and bruised.
And all I want to remember
is the reason why my world shines.
Some shameless self-promo, please feel free to share, like and to repost! I’m trying to grow my little community which I am grateful for every single day. And let me tell you a secret: I am working on publishing my first ever poetry bundle! So, keep an eye out for announcements and updates, I’d say. Thank you for reading.
And thank you, my muse, for being the reason my world shines.
